Uniform Dress Code
The ASES Board
of Trustees established a school uniform policy beginning with the 1999-2000
school year.
This policy applies to students in Grades K-8. The specifics of this policy have
been revised several times,
most recently in May of 2006. The most current interpretation of this policy is
as follows:

During winter months, outer garments without the ASES logo may be worn;
however, they must be removed immediately after the student arrives in class
and cannot be put back on until the student is preparing to leave the
building. |
|
Only acceptable school uniforms may be worn during Chapel or any special
programs scheduled during regular school hours unless specific permission
has been granted by the Head of School |
|
School uniforms will be required on all field trips unless an announcement
is made to the contrary |
|
On occasion, “Free Dress Days” are designated. Although school uniforms are
not required on those dates, certain specifications (such as length of
skirts and shorts) do still apply. During these days, no clothing with
wording that would be inconsistent with the Christian nature of our school
may be worn. |
|
Visible body piercing or tattoos are prohibited, with the exception that
girls may wear one pair of earrings. |
|
It is not a requirement to change for Physical Education; however, clothing
must conform to the policy if a student elects to change. Plain
white t-shirts are required, no tank tops. Shorts must adhere in length to
the regular school uniform policy, and some type of tennis shoe must be
worn. |
|
Students who participate on ASES interscholastic teams, intramural soccer
teams and cheerleading squads may wear their team uniform on game days. |
|
It is highly recommended that all clothing items worn to school be labeled
with the student’s full name. |
|
Items that need to be monogrammed with the school logo may be purchased from
Land’s End, Educational Outfitters in Knoxville or Brooks and Brooks. As an
alternative, clothing items may be purchased elsewhere then have the logo
placed on them by Robert and Debbie Young of Embroidery Barn (Debbie is one
of our preschool teachers). Please see attachments for more information |
Randomly on certain days a “Uniform Check” will be announced, at which time all
teachers will check
student uniforms and note any discrepancies. When a student is out of uniform,
the following is a
guideline for staff reaction:
Lower School (Kindergarten through 3rd Grade):
·
First offense – student is reminded
·
Second offense – a reminder is communicated to
parent
·
Third offense – a meeting between the teacher and
the parent is scheduled to determine a
plan to eliminate the problem
Middle School (4th
through 8th Grade):
·
First offense – student is warned
·
Second offense – 15-minute detention, and warning
communicated to parent
·
Third offense – 30-minute detention and parent
conference
.
Proposed revision 5/30/06
Monogramming with the school logo may be purchased
