Introduction
The mission of All Saints’
Episcopal School begins with a pledge to provide students a quality education
in a traditional Christian environment. In
order to sustain our mission, we must continually review our educational
practices and content. Our core
curriculum teachers are currently in the process of reviewing key content
benchmarks for every grade level in the school. The goal of this work is always school improvement that will benefit
our learners.
We
begin with benchmarks, which
identify specific expectations for learning.
These are exit skills that we generally expect every student to have
mastered by the end of each grade. This
does not mean that we expect every child to meet each learning benchmark at the
same time. The intention here is
certainly not to discourage individualized education! Only the principal benchmarks are being
listed for each grade in order that we might communicate what we feel is most
important to the curriculum.
As
our work on the benchmarks comes together, we are inducing from them more
global standards that are implicit
in the curriculum. Certain themes will
span the grade levels and even the subject disciplines. These standards should speak to the heart of
the All Saints’ Episcopal School educational experience. In this document, the standards are listed
first and are enclosed in shadow boxes for emphasis.
