We have severely mixed emotions in announcing that Coach Mike has accepted a position for the next school year with Berean Christian Academy, a K-12 school) in Knoxville.  Those of you who know Coach Mike will recognize that he is responding to God's call for the next chapter in his life.  Mike has been with us "for a season" (amounting to six years!), and we wish him all the best in his new position with BCA.   This change for our beloved coach is a good professional move for both him and his family.  Godspeed, Coach Mike!

If you are interested in having someone clean your house, we have the person for you, call Penny Jackson at 423-307-2656

Library News

Thank you to those who have sent in their check for $15 to support our Library Birthday Program!  The books have been wonderful additions to our school library and the children have really enjoyed having the book presented in their honor at Chapel.  Remember, all you have to do is write a check for $15 approximately one month before your child’s birthday and Mrs. Spain will purchase a new book that is currently needed in the library in your child’s honor.

Thank you to the PTSO who donated $50 to the Library for new books!  We are happy to have some exciting new titles coming soon!

PTSO:

Calling ALL parents:  Have you looked around at the fun activities hosted by PTSO and thought ,”Wow!, I’d like to be a part of that!” or maybe you have been considering ways to become more involved in the school. PTSO is looking for a few good parents to serve as PTSO board members or Parent Reps for the 2010-2011 school year. If you feel called in this direction, please contact Anne Sheedlo at 587-8643, e-mail: sheeds134@bellsouth. net or Renee Siddiqi at 277-6972, e-mail: reneesiddiqi@gmail.com.

Please start gathering up all of your box tops that you have been saving. PTSO will be having a huge drive after Spring Break and will be collecting them. These box tops help support our art program!

Please start sending in your box tops to your child’s teacher. Each class has a box in their room for box tops. We will be collecting the box tops from now until April 29th. The class that turns in the most in both the ELC and the big school will earn a pizza party!

It is now time to start planning for the summer. We need families to help w/ our school garden. Mrs. Gosnell has a sign – up sheet outside of her classroom for anyone who is willing to help this summer. You can also e-mail her at pgosnell.ases@charter.net.  Volunteers are needed to help w/ tilling, picking and watering. Please see attached sheet for details.

SUMMER SCHEDULE

THE PUMPKIN PATCH AND GARDEN

It is time to think about the planting, cultivating, and harvesting of our garden.  The students will be working hard these next couple of weeks to plant the crops.  Last year’s summer schedule worked well to help us raise $1500.00 and donate a lot of food to the Daily Bread.  We are asking one faculty member and 2 families to volunteer for one week to oversee the garden.  Also we are asking for specific volunteers to help with the tilling of the soil and breaking the beans.  We canned 132 quarts of beans last year.  These are labor intensive tasks.  Our motto is:  Many hands make less work.  We are looking forward to another successful year working together.

A very special Thank You to the Kanipe family (Jesse and Alex) for the arts and crafts goodies donated to the school.

We also want to thank the Vick Family (Maggie) for the Emergency Lunches.  They certainly come in handy when children have forgotten, dropped, burnt, etc. theirs.

Middle School News (6 – 8)

Mrs. Golden and Coach Mike would like to extend a huge thank you to the students who attended the lock-in on Friday night.  It was a complete success and the students were WONDERFUL!  A very special note of gratitude goes to the Student Honor Council who planned and worked the event diligently.

We want to thank all of you for making the 2nd Annual Fitness Fun(d) Walk a huge success!  The students raised over $5,000!  We want to thank all the volunteers on the course and behind the scenes that helped make this a fun day and fundraising success.  If your child received sponsorship money from the mail-outs, we will be sending home the names of sponsors.  We are asking that your child personally send a thank you note to those out-of-town family and friends that mailed in sponsorships.

Sincerely,

Amy Steisslinger and Elisabeth Brooks
